God and the Gay Christian
The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships
Matthew Vines is a gay Christian—and that’s no contradiction. He has also become a leading new voice on the Bible and homosexuality. His groundbreaking speech countering anti-gay interpretations of Scripture has been viewed on YouTube over 700,000 times. The New York Times calls him “an unlikely advocate (and lightning rod) for those straddling one of the most volatile fault lines in America’s culture war: homosexual Christians.”
Matthew Vines is the author of God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships. U.S. News & World Report says: “Matthew’s book is likely to become the biggest, most talked about, Christian book of the year—and could help shatter misperceptions about the Bible’s characterizations of same-sex relationships as a sin against God. It will also, without a doubt, place this young man at the center of a raging cultural debate in America.” Vines is a champion for the acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people within Christian communities and society at large. In March 2012, he paused his studies at Harvard to research and deliver a speech at a church in his hometown about the Bible and homosexuality, calling for acceptance of gay Christians and loving gay relationships. The video has been featured in The New York Times and The Christian Post.
In 2013, Vines launched The Reformation Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to training LGBT Christians and their allies to reform church teaching on sexual orientation and gender identity.
