Adapting in the digital economy requires constant education, brave leadership, and fluid planning.
Amber Mac is a writer, podcaster, entrepreneur and digital maverick whose understanding of disruptive technologies helps companies anticipate lightning-quick changes as they come—from Artificial Intelligence, to social media, to Amazon-era retail. Mac asks, “if it’s so easy to disrupt, the question we need to ask ourselves is why isn’t everyone doing it?” No matter how confident and established the company, everyone needs a blueprint—and Mac’s talks provide you with just that.
Amber Mac is especially fluent in the art of disruptive strategies. She started her career in San Francisco and Boston during the dot-com boom in the late 1990s. What others thought was a trend, she recognized as an explosion. As a strategist for Razorfish and Director of Marketing for an e-procurement software company, she spent four years in the technology start-up trenches. Mac eventually left the start-up world to join Microsoft to build one of the first female-focused lifestyle portals. Then, she launched her own digital media agency. Her client list has grown to include Microsoft, Intel, Shopify, Ford, Nintendo, GE, Fast Company, PayPal, Scotiabank, and many more leading organizations.
“Canada’s top social-media expert on how to build a brand.”
— Canadian BusinessMac is the co-host of Marketing Disrupted, a new series exploring how CMOs adapt to new challenges in an age of digital disruption. The show, which featured marketing executives from Google, Twitter, and Shopify, debuted as the number one business podcast in the country. Mac also co-hosted the top-rated (and award-winning) podcast, The AI Effect, for two seasons. With her co-host, Jodie Wallis of Accenture, Mac interviewed guests like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Joelle Pineau of the Facebook AI Research Lab, and Toronto Mayor John Tory about the challenges and benefits of AI adoption in Canada.
“Amber Mac is a virtual Swiss Army Knife of networking: she displays an endless amount of enthusiasm and energy that nearly crackles off the page. More importantly, she demonstrates a deep and practical understanding of the necessity of extending one’s personal and professional presence online.”
— The Miami HeraldMac is the author of the national bestseller Power Friending and Outsmarting Your Kids Online. She has delivered keynotes at more than 300 events around the world, including events where she has interviewed PM Justin Trudeau and Shopify CEO Toby Lutke about the future of digital. Mac’s expertise includes business innovation, artificial intelligence, the distraction economy, and what it takes for companies to adapt and grow. DMZ named Amber one of 30 inspirational women making a difference in tech. She is a regular business host and expert for Fast Company, Shopify, CNN, Bloomberg TV, CBS, BNN, The Marilyn Denis Show, and SiriusXM Radio.
“The feedback for Amber’s keynote speech at our event was absolutely incredible. Our audience included both educators and IT professionals and it was overwhelmingly positive, with requests to even have her speak again at a future event. The topic and delivery was relatable and kept the audience engaged during the entire session.”
BC Education Marketplace“Great feedback from our group about Amber: I had very positive feedback, and some of it from our most seasoned delegates who have a wealth of knowledge. They were amazed at how much Amber knew and how current she was and how relevant it was. She has a lovely ease on stage too, she's very comfortable up there. She was great!”
MISA“Amber brought such amazing energy and passion to our conference. We knew she would be a hit and yet she still surpassed all expectations!”
Information Systems Audit and Control Association“Amber was an outstanding keynote. The audience was very engaged, and I think they appreciated her honesty. I thought throughout she did a great job of referencing her experience in tech and business with her perspective as a parent. Her presentation was really thoughtful, a balance of optimism about the great things tech can do for us, along with a frank discussion of the possible pitfalls.”
Halton District School Board, 2018 Parent Involvement Conference“Amber was a big hit! She delivered a really great presentation and her message was very well received by our crowds. She was super lovely onsite too, so we're overall very happy. Thanks for following up, hopefully she enjoyed her time!”
PwC Management Services“Thank you for leading us to Amber MacArthur. She wowed the crowd at the Coremetrics Marketing Showcase in Austin! Amber has terrific energy and her message was right on target. It was rewarding to hear all the enthusiastic conversation about her presentation over the breaks and in the hallways. You might be interested to know that her session received a higher rating than any other session during the week, including keynotes, breakout sessions, and training. The top session is always the Product Roadmap, which received a 4.69 out of a possible 5.00, but this year Amber edged that out with a 4.73! I hope you’ll pass along our sincere appreciation and thanks to Amber; she’s a star! And once again, the Lavin Agency proved that you understand the qualities we’re looking for in a speaker and you delivered top-notch talent within our budget.”
Coremetrics“Amber filled the room with energy, providing lots of practical advice and free on-line tools to help build your personal brand. Delegates took the information to heart as we saw an increase in participation in our social media vehicles right away.”
WiN-Canada“I just wanted to follow up to thank-you for taking the time to work with us during our National Sales Conference. I know we only had a few weeks to work with you leading up, but your presentation was amazing! The energy you have and the breadth of insight you have in the digital space is so impressive. The team here is still buzzing about your presentation which is fantastic for our group! I’m not certain if it is still possible, but quite a few of the team members are asking if they can have a copy of your presentation. I know that you are probably quite busy but if this is still an option, we would love to share this with our teams. Thanks again for bringing so much value to our session!”
Workopolis National Sales ConferenceWe obsess over innovation. But innovation is overrated. If you look at the smart companies that are prized for “innovation,” you see that they are actually masters of “adaptation”—of knowing when to adjust, when to speed up, and when to capitalize. It’s not about being first; it’s about being flexible. In this thrilling new talk, Amber Mac looks to leading organizations, many of which she covers for Fast Company, to explore the practice of relentless adaptation. Is your company taking advantage of disruptive new technologies, or simply being disrupted by them? From the C-Suite to marketing to customer service and beyond, a newly adaptive corporate culture, defined by digital technology and bold leadership, is fundamentally changing business. And Amber Mac has had her ear to this fertile new ground for years. Fusing new concepts like crowdsourcing and gamification to a timeless strategic framework, this big picture talk sheds light on how to adapt, and how to win, in our fast-forward economy.
While we’ve obsessed about millennials for almost a decade, it’s time to shift focus to the next generation. Generation Z (people born between 1995 and 2010) is an economic powerhouse that represents a quarter of our population—and is growing. They buy differently, engage differently, connect differently, and think differently. In this talk, Amber Mac explains how to break down your digital strategy into four simple steps to reach this next audience: Rethink Mission, Rethink Work, Rethink Platform, and Rethink Communication. From the Internet of Things to big data, personal privacy to digital security, online marketing to social leadership, she incorporates today’s leading tech trends into a rich multimedia presentation. As the author of a recent book that focuses on this generation and a frequent innovation expert on Bloomberg, Fast Company, CNN, and other outlets, she understands firsthand why companies in all industries must fight to adapt to reach this post-millennial group successfully.
A decade ago, we saw our first warning that digital technology might rule us, and not the other way around. In 2007, hardcore Blackberry owners experienced what was quickly coined “phantom vibrations”— pesky little alerts going off in their pockets or purses, even when their devices weren’t anywhere nearby. Since those days, much has happened. Platform giants like Facebook and Amazon have come to affect nearly a quarter of the world’s economy. And while digital provides plenty of great opportunities, there are also plenty of dangers, too. In many ways, the digital economy could also rightfully be called the “distraction” economy: according to a 2016 Microsoft report, our average attention span has dropped from 12 to 8 seconds, and that means lost employee productivity for businesses, relationship issues for families, and physical accidents due to loss of concentration. Throughout this timely keynote, Amber Mac will discuss today’s distraction risks (such as procrastination) and distraction rewards (such as autonomy) that define our new reality. And as a digital productivity expert for organizations like Fast Company, she’ll also share the best remedies that can put us back in the driver’s seat with digital tech so we can better manage the distractions of today, and tomorrow.
Need a charismatic and authoritative host for your event? Beyond her dynamic keynotes, Amber Mac is also a seasoned emcee and moderator, comfortable leading Q&As with diverse guests in any setting. Drawing on her wealth of knowledge and palpable comfort with audiences, as a host, Amber Mac ensures a fun, focused event with her trademark ability to provide sparkling commentary and effortless flow.
