Two Great Canadian Books: Steve Patterson & Robin Esrock

September marks the release of long-awaited books from two of The Lavin Agency’s most vibrant and entertaining speakers: award-winning comic Steve Patterson and renowned adventurer Robin Esrock. Patterson, the long-standing host of CBC Radio One’s The Debaters, treats us to his debut book, The Book of Letters I Didn’t Know Where to Send, and Esrock, following up on the success of his Great Canadian Bucket List (and its companion editions for western Canada, the prairies, the Arctic, and others) brings us The Great Global Bucket List, with selections culled from his travels in more than 100 countries on seven continents. Both books are sure to be cover-to-cover fun. Read on for a preview of each.

The Book of Letters I Didn’t Know Where to Send by Steve Patterson (September 13)

A staple of Pattersonian stand-up is his letters—to people, to groups, to concepts, even to inanimate objects. And in this book, Patterson commits them to writing. Much like his comedy routines, no subject is off limits. He goes after baseball, Justin Bieber, men’s bike shorts, gluten, and major airlines with equal ferocity and wit.

Need a sample of Patterson’s trademark style? Here he is at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Gala, where, following the show, host Steve Martin declared: “If I’d known he was going to be that good I would have cancelled him.”

Imagine that, but in book form. Pick up The Book of Letters I Didn’t Know Where to Send wherever books are sold.

The Great Global Bucket List by Robin Esrock (September 20)

What’s next for someone who’s been everywhere and done everything? The answer, of course, is to share it with the world. In 2013, adventurer and travel writer Robin Esrock published The Great Canadian Bucket List—a master guidebook of places to see and things to do in Canada before you…well…kick the bucket. And his time, he’s gone global.

In Esrock’s newest volume, you’ll come face-to-face with some of the world’s hidden gems— things you won’t find in your average Frommer’s. Prepare to cage-dive with crocodiles in South Africa, zipline off of the Great Wall of China, swim with sunken treasures in Papua New Guinea, and camp on the ice in Antarctica. But if you’re not the adventurous type, don’t fret. Esrock’s writing makes great at-a-distance entertainment; he’s written for National Geographic Traveler, The Guardian, the Toronto Star, the Chicago Tribune, and The Sydney Morning Herald

Grab your copy of The Great Global Bucket List today, and start planning a list of your own.
