China On The Rise: James Fallows and Deborah Fallows On The New Superpower

Until recently, James Fallows and Deborah Fallows spent several years living and reporting from China.
The duo have experienced the monumental changes taking place in the country first hand, and they are quite adept at explaining how these changes have put China on the path to achieving superpower status on the global stage.
Both James and Deborah will share these findings in an upcoming keynote presentation at the University of Alaska. The event is a collaboration between the university and the Juneau World Affairs Council (JWAC), and the two speakers will use their personal accounts and material from James' book, Postcards From Tomorrow Square, to chart the rise of the country. Further, the presentation will touch on what it's like to do business in China and the role that the country will play in the future of the global economy.

Both James and Deborah are experts on China—its history, its policies, and its culture. James' book, Postcards From Tomorrow Square, his newest release, China Airborne, and his columns in The Atlantic expose a different side of the country that is often overlooked. His riveting keynotes explore the tenuous ties between west and east, and unpacks what is necessary to sustain economic growth in the future. Deborah's book, Dreaming in Chinese, uses her background in linguistics to focus on understanding the country through the lens of language. Their combined research and experience paint a holistic picture of what life is really like in China, and how the rise of the country will radically shift the global landscape.
