Roger Martin Speaker Profile

A New Way to Think, A New Way to Lead, From the Dean of Rotman

Roger Martin revamps business education for the demands of the new global economy

"Instead of focusing on what exceptional leaders do," says Rotman Dean Roger Martin, "we need to understand and emulate how they think." And, if you study them closely, many of today's exceptional leaders -- at Proctor and Gamble, at eBay -- practice what he terms Integrative Thinking. Essentially a new way to think, Integrative Thinking is a cross-disciplinary, big picture approach to leadership which takes into account the fact that, at top levels of management, problems rarely fall neatly into segregated categories such as marketing or finance. Martin was recently named one of the most influential business school teachers in the world by Business Week.

Susan Pinker Speaker Profile

Rethinking the Gender Gap at Work

In The Sexual Paradox, Susan Pinker looks at why men and women make different career choices

In her stunning new book, The Sexual Paradox, Susan Pinker examines how fundamental differences between genders influence ambition and success. Why are the behavioral differences between girls and boys in school reversed in the workplace: Why do fragile boys later go on to succeed? And why do smart young women opt out of successful careers to seek fulfillment elsewhere? In her talks, Pinker turns many gender assumptions on their head -- for instance, that men and women want the same thing out of life. She provides provocative answers to many confounding questions, such as why many fields have difficulty retaining women, especially in upper echelon positions.

William McDonough Speaker Profile

Designing a Greener World, One Car Factory at a Time

William McDonough, the most influential green architect in the world, is changing the face of human industry

William McDonough has changed the way we think about the design and construction of our physical world, showing us—he is a doer, not a preacher—that absolute sustainability and economic success are one and the same. At the Ford plant in Dearborn, Michigan, he installed the world's largest green roof, saving the company millions in utility costs alone. He is planning seven new, entirely green cities in China. In his talks, he draws from his projects for Nike, BP and others, to explore sustainability in various industries. He also explains his influential cradle to cradle design process, in which products can be used, recycled, and used again without losing any material quality.

Jared Diamond Speaker Profile

Will Our Consumption Lead to Our Collapse?

Jared Diamond on rising consumption patterns in developed and developing countries

In the New York Times this month, Jared Diamond, author of Guns, Germs and Steel, wrote a sweeping essay on consumption levels -- in both the First and the Third World -- and its ties to climate change, terrorism, and the unprecedented squeeze it's putting on the planet's resources. As consumption levels rise in Third World countries, and as First World countries continue to consume at an unsustainable rate (32 times that of the Third World), how do we move forward?
