Tavis Smiley is passionate about the need for Black Americans to find new ways to empower themselves and their communities—a message he shares on every medium, with conviction and courage, and especially in his keynote addresses. On his late night PBS talk show, he provides a rare forum where people on all points of the political spectrum, and across all races, can engage in civil dialog that is robust, enlightening and often very entertaining. Smiley established his non-profit, the Tavis Smiley Foundation, to enlighten, encourage and empower Black youth. He also recently became the youngest American ever to have a professional school and center named after him on a university campus when Texas Southern University opened both The Tavis Smiley School of Communications and The Tavis Smiley Center for Professional Media Studies.
