Leo Rautins was the first Canadian ever to be picked in the first round of the NBA Draft, a milestone achievement that has inspired countless others to dream bigger. Before that, Rautins was recruited by basically all of the top US colleges—an equally seminal moment that opened the floodgates for Canadian kids to play at American schools. The former head coach of the Canadian National Men's Team, Rautins has now devoted himself to broadcasting. As a teenager, Rautins managed to do what many thought impossible —get recruited into a major NCAA basketball program. After a brief stint at the University of Minnesota and being selected to Big Ten All-Rookie Honors, he starred for Syracuse University, where he was named MVP in the Big East Tournament and was selected to the school's All-Century Team. Not one to neglect his off-court learning, he finished college with a degree from the prestigious SI Newhouse School of Public Communications.
