Born in Havana, and raised in New York City, Cristina Garcia has quietly become one of the most important Latin American novelists of our time and a provocative voice on the future of multicultural America. Her books beautifully capture the interrelated personal, political and familial complexities of living with a hyphenated identity.

In her talks, she examines questions close to the hearts of millions of Americans: what does it mean for immigrants to achieve comfort and success within mainstream culture? What are the triumphs and the sometimes heartbreaking conflicts of their dual lives? What are the staggering demographic and political ramifications of their presence? How do young multi-hyphenated people see themselves?
