Creator, Executive Producer and Star of Hiccups and Corner Gas
- The Toronto Star
Brent Butt is the creator, star, and executive producer of CTV's beloved comedy Corner Gas, which garnered over a million viewers each week for its last five seasons. It was a staple of Canadian television and has won countless Canadian Comedy, Gemini, and Writers Guild of Canada awards. His style, which he calls "coffee shop humour," is conversational, relaxed, and very funny. "My friends and I used to sit in the local coffee shop, for hours, talking [about] everything from world domination to the best kind of socks," Butt says. "That's what I try to recapture onstage, that easy style. The jokes naturally build and multiply. You don't have to force them."
Please pass on to Mr. Butt our sincerest thanks for this excellent job at our 100th Anniversary celebrations last weekend. Many, many people have expressed to me how perfectly his routine and humour complemented the nature and tone of our centennial. People were thoroughly entertained and appreciated that his act was hysterical without resorting to profanity and inappropriateness. He is a natural and talented comic. Mr. Butt really did a fine job and we'd like him to know that.
