Ideas Worth Spreading: The Lavin Agency Goes To TEDxToronto 2013
Here's what Hayley Citron, our Marketing Coordinator, had to say about her experience at the event:
"I had the pleasure of attending this year's TEDxToronto. It was one of the most moving, inspiring, and invigorating events I've ever been to. What's more: all the speakers were local. To hear about such varying, amazing, and truly innovative home-grown ideas made me proud to be Canadian. The day had a great flow to it, the audience was challenged and engaged, the speakers were at ease on stage and they left us feeling more in tune with the world around us than when we arrived. There were standing ovations, teary eyes (from laughing, and crying), and not a single empty seat. The theme was "The Choices We Make" and while the topics ranged—from technology to mental health and sustainability—one idea remained the same: that we make big, sometimes life-changing choices on a day-to-day basis. And, if we choose to make our world better through our actions, then we all succeed."
Over the years, many of our speakers have taken to the stage at TEDxToronto.Drew Dudley, a speaker on leadership and mental health, earned a massive following from his Everyday Leadership talk at TEDx. It recently surpassed one million all-time views! Drew was also the host of last year's event. (If you want to know what the experience was like, check out his insightful pointers on what it takes to prepare for a keynote event).
Steven Page, the former Barenaked Ladies frontman and highly-requested speaker, was also a part of last year's TEDxToronto. Truly at home on the stage, Page's intimate and interactive keynote brought the crowd together as if they were all sitting in his living room—all 1,200 of them! Give his keynote talk a look, and sing along if you want—Page encourages it. And if you're feeling like being adventurous, take a look at the TEDxToronto talk from George Kourounis, the world's most active storm chaser and host of Angry Planet. In his keynote, he shares some of his wildest adventures, and explains that the same skill set used to face the most dangerous weather can also help us work through our everyday workplace and individual challenges.
