Leadership Speaker Reggie Love, on Obama's Cool Competitiveness

“[Obama's] a competitor,” leadership speaker Reggie Love recently told CNN. And Love should know. As the former personal aide to the President—who spent more time with him than almost anyone else these past few years—he has seen Obama during White House decision-making sessions and on the basketball court. Love notes that Obama's cool and collected demeanor reflects lessons learned while shooting hoops.

"I think it looks like he's really, really calm all the time and nothing gets under his skin,” Love said, “but I think from an efficiency standpoint, you know, you can cry about the call or you can look to the next play."

As a former Duke University basketball player himself, Reggie Love said that refraining from being overly emotional or reactionary to an event—both in sports and in life—helps you stay on top of things. He makes similar correlations in his keynotes, where he draws from his own experiences and provides lessons on effectively leading a team and making the most of every opportunity.
