Toronto | Full-Time
The Lavin Agency is North America’s leading speakers bureau, home to many of the world’s best thinkers, writers, and doers. Our unparalleled roster consists of interesting people—no “professional speakers”—doing interesting work, making the world a better place.
We are looking for a full-time videographer / marketing producer to help shape Lavin’s video strategy: conception, execution, marketing. We don’t want just a camera person. Or someone who is proficient with editing software. For sure, the perfect candidate should obsess over camera lenses, lighting set-ups, and Adobe updates. But they should also connect their technical know-how and artistic eye to a practical marketing effort: how to find and reach more clients through online video. A major part of your job, beyond shooting and editing, will be helping to plan a video strategy, trying out new ideas, measuring their effectiveness, reporting to management, and deciding together what works and what doesn’t. We want someone who uses a critical eye—someone who will tell us if a video is great, good, sub-par, needs extensive editing, or should just be scrapped. They should be able to answer these questions: Where do our clients prefer to watch videos, and how do we stay in front of them? What new trends and platforms are worth investigating? What kind of budget do we need to accomplish our goals?
-Travel offsite to film original keynote.
-Film original interviews in the office.
-Organize and edit videos sent to us by speakers and clients.
-Manage our YouTube site, and our overall online video presence on all platforms.
-Create simple in-house graphics for newsletters, social media, the website, as needed.
-Record audio for podcasts and interviews, as needed.
-Tackle miscellaneous duties, related to video, photo, sound, and graphics.
The perfect candidate for the job is someone who genuinely enjoys working with other people, co-workers and strangers alike. You will often be interacting with our speakers and, when travelling offsite, with our clients. A friendly, professional attitude is a must. Much of the job is solo, but other parts involve collaboration with a Lavin writer, and of course working with Lavin leadership on long-term strategy. An ability to problem-solve, juggle multiple projects at various levels of completion, meet tight deadlines, produce the highest-quality work, and ensure that we are staying on top of video and marketing trends—these are the qualities needed for the job. As is the ability to keep the bigger picture in mind, which is to use videos as an integral way to effectively market and book our speakers. How can we disseminate our videos, via social and online channels, to new and ever-larger audiences who will end up doing business with Lavin? That is the core question, with differing answers, that the perfect candidate will seek to answer.
Please send us a boring resume and an exciting cover letter, stating why you’re the perfect candidate for this job. And include a link to your reel, directing us to specific videos that you feel mark you out as a good fit at Lavin.
