Taking Our Place in
the World: Young People, Technology, and the World We Want Jennifer
Corriero is a living example of the youth-quake that shook business to its core
in the last five years. While still a high-school student, she mastered the skills
of the Internet revolution and became one of the leading proponents of youth involvement
in the online world. Now a college student, she draws on her own unique experience
to help young people understand the opportunities that exist for them to contribute
to, and create, a more understanding, compassionate, and inter-connected world.
Especially keen to make sure young women are at the forefront of developments
in new technology, she draws on students own questions and ideas to shape an interactive,
lively, and rewarding discussion on the things they can do to shape the future.
Technology,
Education and the Student Experience This highly interactive
talk challenges educators to understand the ways in which their students
own experience and knowledge can be put to use to make the classroom experience
a better one for students and teachers alike. There is no denying the incredible
knowledge and expertise that many young people have developed in the areas of
information technology and the Internet. Unfortunately this expertise has oftentimes
been separate from, rather than integral to, the classroom. As a successful young
entrepreneur and consultant, Jennifer Corriero knows first-hand that the classroom
setting sometimes fails the best and the brightest in this regard. But this talk
isnt about failure. Its about success, and the things that educators
can do to tap into their students expertise and experience, making them
vibrant contributors to their own, and their classmates education. Building
on the audiences own questions and comments, Jennifer helps educators draw
on their own experience to generate new ideas about student involvement and classroom
interaction. Women, Technology, and the Future
of Work Its an undeniable fact of the new century
that individual career success and independence will in many ways be dependent
on understanding and embracing the ongoing technological revolution were
living through. Yet unfortunately, young women have not been as inclined towards
the sciences and technology disciplines as their male peers. Jennifer
Corriero understands the challenges that young women face in these fields. Having
fully immersed herself in the opportunities of new technology, and helped to create
several successful on-line ventures, she can speaks with passionate knowledge
and infectious enthusiasm about the many ways that new technologies are helping
women to take their rightful place in the new world of work. This topic is perfect
for any business, association, or educational group that wants to understand how
technological literacy can help to provide young women with more confidence, greater
independence, and a brighter future. | ||
