Lead Singer of Everclear Joins Lavin Roster
Art Alexakis A Great Choice for Campus Lectures

Even among his rock star peers, Art Alexakis stands out as a funny and disarmingly honest figure. His band, Everclear, has sold millions of records and toured the world. This success, however, comes at the tail end of a turbulent youth, which included abuse and drug addiction. A natural storyteller and an in-demand guest on television (he was a favorite on Politically Incorrect), he brings to every campus he visits the same energy, warmth and sense of community that you find at Everclear's sold-out concerts.

The Namesake, Directed by Mira Nair and Starring Kal Penn, Now in Theaters
"A richly compelling story of family and self-discovery" - Variety

The Namesake is 2007's most critically acclaimed film. Entertainment Weekly, which gives the film an "A-", says director Mira Nair's work "is certainly empathic (and also funny and sexy and rueful), yet watching The Namesake, her moving and marvelous new cross-cultural family saga, I was struck by the nearly sculptural skill with which she expresses that spirit." The New York Times, in its glowing review, singles out the "crackling star performance by Kal Penn, who brings an offhanded charisma."

Religion Expert Stephen Prothero Featured in Newsweek Article
Hailed as "the kind of professor who makes you want to go back to college"

"[Stephen] Prothero is a world religions scholar with the soul of a late-night television comic," Newsweek writes in a recent article— just one of many published in the wake of Prothero's celebrated new book, Religious Literacy. Though most Americans claim to be religious, few know the basics about their religion, much less other religions. To counter this religious illiteracy, Prothero argues that we need to teach the Bible and world religions to public school students; not to advocate for any specific faith, but to help them better understand, academically, the major role that religion plays in American politics and world affairs.

Augusten Burroughs' Running With Scissors: Now Over Two Million Copies in Print
Stunning Success Shows No Signs of Abating: Still in Top Ten

Augusten Burroughs' memoirRunning with Scissors is the publishing success of the decade: there are 2.4 million copies in print, and it has spent over 134 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. Burroughs is currently writing a book about his father, who did not figure prominently in Running with Scissors, partly because, "Our relationship was so complicated..that to tell the story would require a book [of its own]."

Great Advance Review on Gina Kolata's New Book
Rethinking Thin An "Eye-opening book that questions all our received wisdom about why we get fat"

Publishers Weekly wrote recently that Gina Kolata, a senior New York Times reporter, " may be the best writer around covering the science of health." Her upcoming book, Rethinking Thin: The New Science of Weight Loss—and the Myths and Realities of Dieting, will only add to her reputation. "This book will change your thinking about weight, whether you struggle with it or not," PW wrote in its starred review.
