University President Offers High Praise for Bob Geldof
Calls Him the Highlight of Their Fall Semester
Nobel Man of Peace Sir Bob Geldof,
in the midst of a wildly popular speaking tour of America,
continues to solidify his reputation as one of the world's
great humanitarians and one of its most commanding speakers.
Though we receive warm praise from all of the campuses that he visits, the following one really stood out:
"Few speakers have engaged our
students and university community as much as Bob Geldof.
From music fans who recall fondly the Boomtown Rats to a
new generation of admirers that were captivated by Bob's
passion and commitment (not to mention his occasional irreverence,
great stories and humor) his coming to Roger Williams University
as part of our series on reason and respect was the highlight
of fall 2006. I recommend him highly. He is a warm, gracious,
compassionate story teller and activist who motivates his
audience to do more, do better or, at least, do something
to alleviate suffering on the planet."
Roy J. Nirschel, Ph.D. President, Roger Williams University

Laurie Garrett

Thanks to a rise in public and
private giving, more money is being directed toward the
world's poor and sick than ever before. But, writes Laurie
Garrett, unless these efforts start tackling public health
in general instead of narrow, disease-specific problems,
poor countries could be pushed even further into trouble.
A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Garrett is this country's leading
authority and most impassioned speaker on public health
concerns.
