PETER MANSBRIDGE
Occasionally, a news anchor reaches a level of such
public respect and visibility that they become more than a broadcaster.
They become the daily voice of a nation, chronicling its hopes and fears,
celebrating its achievements, and grieving its disappointments and tragedies.
In Canada, Peter Mansbridge has become that national voice.
Peter Mansbridge is the Chief Correspondent of CBC
Television News, anchors the network's flagship news program, The National,
and hosts his own show, Mansbridge: One on One. Now in his fourth
decade with CBC News, Mansbridge has become our most respected source
for comprehensive coverage of the key developments in Canada and around
the world, and his live coverage of major events has set the standard
by which other journalists are judged. He was on the scene for stories
such as the fall of the Berlin Wall and the state funeral of Pierre Trudeau,
and has covered the funeral of Pope John Paul II, the events surrounding
September 11th and the recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
For his many accomplishments, Mansbridge has won recognition, time and
again, from both his peers and the wider community. He has received 12
Gemini Awards for excellence in broadcast journalism, including nine for
Best Anchor. He has twice won the Gemini for Best Overall Broadcast Journalist
(the prestigious Gordon Sinclair Award), and in 2006 received his latest,
for Best Host in a News Information Series for Canada Votes: Your Turn
With the Leaders. He is also a recipient of the 2004 Canadian Club
of New York's Arts and Letters Award as well as the gold medal for Best
News Anchor at the 2000 New York Festival. He has been the Arnold Wolfers'
Fellow at Yale University, and has lectured at Oxford University as part
of their distinguished speakers series.
What does Peter Mansbridge talk about?
Canada and Canadians in
a Changing World
One of the best public speakers in the country, Peter
Mansbridge brings warmth, humour, and a dynamic stage presence to all
of his presentations. His speeches touch on key issues of the day, exploring
the national mood in relation to political trends. He also talks about
leadership ... what it takes and how it can be achieved whether its politics,
business or academics. His stories often highlight the accomplishments
of Canadians - both at home and on the international stage - and show
his love for the country as well as his determination to celebrate our
contributions to building a better world. Running through all of his talks
is one common thread: His desire to see Canadians celebrate their heritage
and recognize that a shared national story has shaped us at both an individual
and a collective level, and that this story is being daily written and
re-written by all Canadians.
The highlight of any conference or event, Peter's talks inform and
inspire in equal measure, leaving the audience thrilled to have been
in the presence of such a passionate and unique Canadian voice.
