JAROME
IGINLA When sportswriters talk about a player as being
the complete package, they're referring to someone who combines raw talent
with an ability to move his game to a higher level when it matters most,
and in the process pull his teammates along with him. You might also call
it character, or leadership. In the game of hockey you could just call
it Jarome Iginla.
One of the game's elite goal-scorers, Iginla has consistently
demonstrated the kind of leadership on and off the ice that make him one
of Canada's most popular sports celebrities. As a star right winger with
the Calgary Flames, he has won some of the game's biggest awards, including
the Art Ross Trophy, Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy and Lester B. Pearson
Award. He is representative of the new generation of the game's best,
and all of Canada was dazzled by his gritty play and deft scoring touch
in Team Canada's historic gold medal win over the United States in the
2002 Winter Olympics, when he led the way with two goals and an assist
in the championship game. Iginla brings the same level of professionalism
to his personal appearances as he does his on ice play. Gracious and charming,
he takes the time to answer questions, sign autographs, and make everyone
feel welcome. His presence turns an average corporate event into something
extraordinary. A committed member of his local Calgary community, Iginla
is well-known for his generosity to various local charities. |
