Stephen Lewis Teaches Class on Climate Change

At McMaster University, the noted humanitarian examines the impact of global warming on health around the world

"Nothing would resuscitate Canada's relevance more quickly than decisive leadership on climate change," Stephen Lewis says. Recently appointed a Professor in Global Health at McMaster University, Lewis will teach a course that explores all aspects of climate change, with a focus on its consequences for Global Health in both the developed and developing countries. Though best known for his work with HIV/AIDS and poverty in Africa, and as one of Canada’s most popular speakers, Lewis was also the chair of the first International Conference on Climate Change.

Little Mosque on the Prairie Star Joins Lavin Agency

Zaib Shaikh, lead actor in CBC's worldwide comedy hit, explores the multicultural wonder of Canada

Little Mosque on the Prairie has attracted interest around the world and record ratings at home. Zaib Shaikh, the Toronto-born actor of Pakistani descent who plays the lead, has just signed with The Lavin Agency. In his presentations, he shows audiences how his distinguished career -- in which he's played a wide variety of roles --bears out how far Canada has come in building and celebrating a multicultural society. With the timing and grace of a great actor, he’s a perfect choice for any group that wants to emphasize shared values and common experiences.

Global Warming: An Urgent, Increasingly Urban Problem

Environmental expert Guy Dauncey shows us how Canada's cities and towns can curb climate change

In Canada, more than 80 per cent of the population now lives in urban centres. How our cities and towns respond to climate change will ultimately determine our future. In this optimistic and powerful presentation, Guy Dauncey explores workable, proven solutions that municipalities can and must adopt, including smart growth, suburban eco-restoration, efficiency retrofits, downtown revitalization, urban farming and transit expansion -- solutions that lay the foundation for a healthy, resilient and sustainable future, and create a vote-winning platform with much political merit.

Globe Columnist To Address CSAE National Conference

John Ibbitson will give opening keynote at Canadian Society of Association Executives National Conference in October

John Ibbitson, The Globe and Mail's first ever Washington-based columnist, will deliver a high-profile keynote address at this year’s CSAE National Conference in Hamilton. Whether it's dissecting the complexity of Canada-US relations, discussing the political action (or lack thereof) on climate change, or offering bold recommendations on this country's future (something he did to great effect in The Polite Revolution), Ibbitson has earned his reputation as one of Canada’s most brilliant and trusted political speakers.

Linwood Barclay Speaker Profile

The European Success of Linwood Barclay

Germans can't get enough of the noted Canadian humourist and bestselling author

The German edition of Linwood Barclay's No Time for Goodbye is the number five book in that country -- behind only a popular diet book and three editions of Harry Potter. Ohne Ein Wort, which translates to Without a Word, has been amazon.de's number five title since its release. One of Canada's most beloved humour writers, Barclay, in his pitch-perfect and light-hearted keynotes, shares with audiences his witty and insightful take on the world around us.

Two Lavin Speakers Honor Stephen King

Margaret Atwood and Chuck Klosterman pay tribute to novelist in his first Canadian public appearance

"I bet you didn't expect to see me here," Margaret Atwood said at a recent event honouring Stephen King. She was there to celebrate his Canadian Booksellers Association Lifetime Achievement award. Also on hand was Chuck Klosterman, America’s most provocative pop journalist. He conducted a hilariously entertaining onstage interview with King that had the audience howling with delight. Six years ago, King read Klosterman’s first book and concluded that, "Writing about pop culture doesn't get any better than this, or any funnier."
