TED Fellow Candy Chang
, the international public spaces artist, is bringing her popular 'Before I Die
' installation to Nebraska. Candy will help Doane College students recreate the interactive exhibit—which The Atlantic
called "one of the most creative community projects ever,”—and will give a free, public lecture
on campus on November 12. Arranged like a giant chalkboard, participants use the board to relay their hopes, dreams and aspirations about what they want to accomplish before their time on Earth is over. The project began in New Orleans, and has since expanded across the world, Chang making kits available for interested parties who want to bring a similar wall to their community. The project is part of Chang's bigger body of work that uses public spaces in new and exciting ways to bring people closer together.

In her deeply moving TED Talk
about the inspiration for her project, we get a glimpse into the way Chang envisions the cities of the future. Her projects, and her talks, explore the power of simple objects to create transformative results in communities. One of Fast Company
's "Emerging Designers
" and a newly appointed World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, Chang is producing projects that make us think about the way our cities exist today—and how we can build stronger and more interactive communities in the future.Photo: Courtesy of Randal Ford from CandyChang.Com.
