A Civilian Honor for Extraordinary Doctor Samantha Nutt

The Lavin Agency is pleased to announce that Dr. Samantha Nutt, the humanitarian and Founder & Executive Director of War Child Canada, has received the Order of Canada for her contributions to improving the lives of young people in global conflict zones. The Order, given by Governor General David Johnson, is widely considered one of Canada’s highest civilian honors.

Nutt's inspiring talks focus on leadership, social responsibility, and enacting meaningful change on health and humanitarian fronts. She has spearheaded efforts to provide direct support and long-term programming to children and families affected by war, and promotes greater awareness around the rights of children everywhere. Dr. Nutt's work and words have helped bring dignity to innocent people ravaged by circumstances beyond their control. For all her practical implements, Dr. Nutt provides, above all, a sense of hope.

An uncompromising and powerful advocate for justice and peace, Dr. Nutt is one of Canada's most sought-after public speakers. She has been named one of Canada's 25 Transformational Canadians by the Globe and Mail and the World Economic Forum recognized her as one of 200 Young Global Leaders. Dr. Nutt is a staff physician at Women's College Hospital in Toronto and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Samantha Nutt’s first book, Damned Nations, is set to be released in October, 2011.
