Religions Expert Karen Armstrong Focuses on Compassion in Her New Book

Lavin speaker Karen Armstrong, one of the foremost experts on world religions, has just released her new book, Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life — a hardbound manifestation of the journey she started, in 2007, when she won the prestigious TED Prize. Using her prize money, and working with input from some of the world’s major religious figures, Armstrong crafted an extraordinary document, The Charter for Compassion, which calls for us to restore “compassion to the heart of religious and moral life.” From Alfred A. Knopf, her long time publisher: “Armstrong believes that while compassion is intrinsic in all human beings, each of us needs to work diligently to cultivate and expand our capacity for compassion. Here, in this straightforward, thoughtful, and thought-provoking book, she sets out a program that can lead us toward a more compassionate life.”
