Diane Francis Promotes A U.S.-Canada Merger In Her "Must-Read" New Book

In her provocative new book Merger Of The Century, economics speaker Diane Francis makes a case for “Why Canada and America Should Become One Country." While the acclaimed business writer admits that such a merger would be a difficult one, she stresses that it's also a worthwhile thought experiment. Don Tapscott, one of world's top 50 thinkers, author, and new Chancellor of Trent University, agrees. "Francis' 'thought experiment' is a must read," he writes in the Toronto Star, "[It's] meticulously documented, calmly and rationally argued. Commanding a rich knowledge of world political and economic history, she paints a compelling tapestry that is hard to dismiss." He adds: "It’s not so preposterous that 20 years after the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement, someone has finally crafted a serious proposal for the political integration of Canada and the United States."

The book has been causing a sensation on both sides of the border since its release. Francis argues that a merger (which she provides several options on how to achieve) would solve both nations' most pressing problems: the U.S.’s national security threats and declining living standards; and Canada’s difficulty controlling and developing its huge landmass, stemming from a lack of capital, workers, technology, and military might. "We all owe it to ourselves to step back and reflect deeply about the volatile period of history we are entering," Tapscott concludes. "To me, if it advances prosperity, sustainability, and justice, then no proposal is too outrageous to consider."

Francis is one of the world’s leading business writers and keynote speakers on the trends and geopolitics that transform companies, individuals, governments, and societies around the world. To book Diane Francis to speak at your event, contact The Lavin Agency Speakers Bureau.
